I think I took the 4 months or so before I moved for granted. I had the "good life" back then. Getting to work at a reasonable hour...you know, just in time to go to lunch with your co-workers. Being super productive for a good 4 hours or so...and then heading home at a reasonable time. Having time to go to the gym and hang out with friends! Oh...those were the days.
I was secretly hoping that schedule would continue with only slight modifications - like maybe getting to work a little earlier and having better weather to enjoy after work. But there have been a lot more than just slight modifications. I'm back into that dreadful busy season of tax accounting. Working all day and all night. And wondering why in the world I ever decided to choose this career. Yes, I'm having serious doubts about the whole career path I'm on.
So - if any of you have ANY good ideas for me....let me know! My only requirements are that I can have my life back for most of the year. No more insane busy season hours. And I'm totally willing to go back to school for another 2-4 years if need be. Anything to get me out of this life-sucking job I'm in right now. IDEAS PLEASE!

Come join me! :) Seriously, I recommend it. I am actually very excited at the prospect of being able to steer away from accounting and do something different and it's actually kind of fun, even if overwhelming, to be back in school. Plus, the new Tanner Building additon, where we pretty much live, is really nice!
Just be a professional couch acrobat! ;) Ha ha just kidding. I don't have any ideas, but I hope things get better! Miss ya girl!
Charlotte - taking the GMAT is definitely on my "to do" list. So, who knows..maybe I'll join ya. :)
My vote is for you stay in Accounting/Financial world (cuz you are so good at it) but get out of the public accounting world. Brock has an awesome work/life balance (so it is possible in your field) ..... I'm impressed that you have stayed w/ it so long (and still seem sane!). I couldn't have done it. And, if you decide to go back to school, good for you as well. I wasn't a big fan of the GMAT, but Brock did great =). You are in my thoughts & prayers. You'll make the right decision.
PS: I forgot to say, whatever you decide to do, I hope you love it (or at least like it)! Life is much happier that way (at least from the jobs I have been in....). Want to start a business together? I always thought that would be fun .... I just haven't ever come up with a great idea....
PPS: Brock said that AMEX loves people from E&Y. He said you'll make less money but your life will be happier .... if you want any more info from him, let me know....
I say you work at a community college teaching accounting. Great hours, lots of vacation days, and no all nighters. Do that in california and you still get the great weather. That, and it doesn't pay half bad either.
PS. nice picture. I didn't realize i was in it until i clicked on it to get a bigger look.
I think private accounting is the way to go. It is so much less stressful (in my experience). You can actually have a life year round! I hope you find something that you enjoy!
