GoodBye Stamford Office

After 4 really good years, I had to say goodbye to all my co-workers. And quite honestly, I just wasn't really looking forward to that at all. I have made some really fantastic friends over the years in the Stamford, CT office. And I'm going to miss them more than they probably know.

They threw me a little happy hour one of my last days in the office. And it ended up probably being one of the best happy hours we've had in a really long time. Ironic that the Mormon girl gets sent off with a big ol' happy hour!

In fact, I was asked if instead of a happy hour if I just wanted to get some of my closer colleagues together to go out for dinner instead since I don't drink. But I wanted to do something that everyone could go to and that they would have fun at...so I was quite fine with having a happy hour and drinking all the diet coke I wanted. I've always had a great time at happy hour and this night was definitely not an exception to that.

The night began at about 6:30, when a few of us headed over to the bar. More and more people kept coming and we had a great turn out. (Ligi - I'm still disappointed that you never showed up!) After everyone got a few drinks in them and the camera came out....we had even more fun. Yes, we even did the Macarena....

And lucky for us...it was even Karaoke night!!! Woot! And it's probably no surprise to anyone, that the only sober girl was ready and willing to jump out there and sing!

I am seriously going to miss happy hours a lot. And I'm worried that I won't have quite as cool people to hang out with at my new office (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I do).

People sometimes ask me how a girl from Canada that went to BYU ended up in Stamford, CT. Well, when I was applying for an internship I had to decide on a location. I didn't want to go back to Canada (espescially since I was getting my degree in US taxation) and didn't really have any particular place that I had a connection to or reason to go to. My brother lived in Madison, WI at the time and My sister lived in CT. I figured since there was a lot more going on in NYC which would be close to my sister, that I would apply for there.

I put NYC as my first location and then Stamford, CT as my second option. My interview on campus was interesting to say the least. I actually thought it went really bad because the whole time I was in there, the interviewer was trying to convince me to go Audit (even though I was getting my Masters in Tax) and wanted me to go to Stamford (which I ended up telling him I was fine with). To my surprise, I was asked to go for an office visit to Stamford despite what seemed like a horrible interview.

I still remember interviewing with Hindy, Joe, and Marty....and going to lunch with Al. And I remember getting stuck on the runway on my way back because of some stupid snow storm and trying to cram for an exam I had the next day! Before I even got back to my apartment in Utah (I got stuck overnight in Chicago), I had a message from the head recruiter saying they wanted to extend an offer for an internship.

I ended up accepting the offer and having a great internship. Like most internships, it led to a full-time offer - which I obviously accepted and that's how I ended up back in CT after gradution.

I am so happy that I made my decision to start my career there. I worked with a lot of great people. Granted I didn't always love my job and worked some insane hours, but overall my experience there was good.

I know I'm still not going to love my job in CA and I'll probably work more insane hours, I just really hope I have just as good of people to work with, go to lunch with and hit up happy hour with!!

A lot of us stayed out until the bar closed...and even went to a diner at 1 in the morning. It was such a FUN night! They better control themselves a little better at future happy hours now that their designated driver is gone! :)

oh....I even managed to get my manager Joe to sing a little Karaoke with me.. A little NKOTB! :) Sorry the video is so dark and the sound...well, he was drunk (i'm still sad we missed capturing his fall on video) and I had a few too many Diet Cokes! ;)

Not really anyone from work reads my blog (except you, Carolyn) - but I hope they know how much I'm going to miss them! Thanks for 4 great years!

That's a huge move!! Hope that life is Cali is going well (I'm guessing that you're there by now)! I'm starting to love things about Chicago. We're in Naperville - don't know if you served there?

Mostly I LOVE the Chicago food!!! These people know how to cook - the pizza is the best - but I guess everyone says that. Let me know if you're ever in town!
